How to Identify Your Skin Type Accurately

A two-hour post-cleanse blotting test settles the question in under a minute.

A simple test

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser and apply nothing afterwards. Two hours later, press a tissue against your forehead, nose, and cheeks.

  • Oily: clear oil marks everywhere.
  • Dry: no marks, with tightness and roughness.
  • Combination: oil in the T-zone only.
  • Normal: balanced, neither tight nor shiny.

Sensitivity is not a type

Sensitivity is a condition that can affect any of the four types. Its signature is redness and quick stinging with new products.

Skin type changes

Age, seasons, hormones, and climate all shift it. Retest every six months.
